C. Community Services
1. Salisbury Fire/EMS personnel conducted medical stand-bys/demos/
presentations for the following during the quarter:
a. Wor-Wic Community College - Paramedic Class
b. Health Fair at Bennett High School
c. Parkside Career Technology Center - Health Occupations Students
d. Salisbury University - Athletic Trainer Students
2. The CPR Training Center taught a total of eight (8) CPR (Cardio-
Pulmonary Resuscitation) Classes during the quarter to the general
public
3. The following students have started their clinical rotations on our
Paramedic units during the quarter:
a. EMT-B Students
b. Wor-Wic Community College Paramedic Students
c. Salisbury University Athletic Trainer Students
d. Parkside Career Technology Education Students
D. Home Fire Safety Inspections
1. During the quarter members of the inspection team visited one
hundred seven homes (107). Thirty-six (36) home fire safety
inspections were completed. Ten (10) smoke detector batteries were
also issued
2. Department personnel have issued/installed thirty-four (34) smoke
detectors for members of the community during the quarter.
E. Underwater Rescue Team
1. Training dives, missions, and meetings for the team consisted of the
following during the quarter:
a. Three (3) monthly meetings
b. Boat Ramp on Riverside Drive (Training Dive)
c. Salisbury University - Maggs Gym Pool (Training Dive)
d. Beaverdam in the Park (Training Dive)
e. Evidence recovery for Salisbury Police Department at Johnson's
Lake (Mission)
F. Note Worthy Events
1. Chaplain J. Harvey Dixon performs many services for Wicomico
County and the State of Maryland. He provides pastoral care for our
members, Wicomico County and other fire companies in the State of
Maryland, attends various meetings in Wicomico County and the
State of Maryland, assists at accidents and house fire alarms, hospital
visitations, funerals, and death notifications. He also works in the
American Red Cross and the community in helping citizens in
emergency situations.
2. Fire Line Officers for Station #1 and Station #2 have been duly elected
by their corporate membership and successfully completed a
confirmation process. They shll serve as the Fire Line Officers for
their Stations until further notice.
3. Firefighter William E. Gordy was appointed to the position of Deputy
Fire Chief (Volunteer) on March 1, 2004 after an intensive selection
process.
