SECOND QUARTER REVIEW
FIRE DEPARTMENT
1.
The Salisbury Fire Department exists to ensure the health, safety, and well being of our community by providing prevention and mitigation of fire and life safety hazards in an effective and efficient manner.
2.
Analysis of Activities and Accomplishments
a.
The
department is awaiting the delivery of the new staff sedan.
b.
Equipment
list is being confirmed for the new engines.
c.
In
anticipation of future vacancies, background investigations have been completed
for four (4) potential employee candidates.
d.
Bid
prices have been received and the department will be purchasing eighty two (82)
Scott Self Contained Breathing Apparatus for personnel. A new fit testing machine has been ordered,
which will only take three (3) minutes to perform the testing.

critique of the Perdue explosion on

Language
Link telephonic interpretation for department members has been placed
in-service for non-English speaking
people.

A
Military Protocols Class for funerals, ceremonies, etc. has been offered to
department members.
h.
Deputy
Chief Keenan has served on the Eastern Shore Hurricane Traffic management Plan
Committee MDOT, Maryland Maritime Security Task Force and represented the
department in a meeting with the MSFA Residential Fire Sprinkler Task Force.
i. A 2005 Fire Prevention Grant
was submitted for consideration to purchase a fire prevention
safety trailer.

3. Progress - Annual Goals and Objectives
a. Enhancing Public Safety
i. The Department continues to provide prevention educational opportunities for the community including first aid and life safety training.
ii. Professional relationships with other public safety organizations are at the highest level in recent years.
iii. Although average response times are not yet less than four (4) minutes, they are still within accepted national standards.
b. Infrastructure
i. Within the next ninety (90) days the Department is expected to take delivery of, and place in service, two (2) new pumping engines and a new staff sedan.
ii. The
renovation / remodeling of Fire Station #1 is close to seventy (70%) per cent
complete.
iii. Preparation of bid specification packages for the new fire station project should be completed within the next forty-five (45) days.
iv. Annually increasing calls for service continue to increase demand on existing staff personnel. The acquisition of additional personnel will be a major focus of FY2007 budget requests.

i. Staff personnel are using department operational statistics to make recommendations for the improvement of service delivery via resource reallocation and the requirement of additional operations personnel.

agencies and vendors to discuss emerging trends and new technologies regarding

i. Volunteer personnel have been afforded opportunities to ensure their professional
development in key operational and management roles.
ii. All personnel have been issued new state of the art personal protective equipment and the
Department has placed an order for eighty two (2) new state of the art self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA). These projects greatly enhance the protection and safety
for firefighting personnel and will reduce the frequency and severity of injury and the
Citys financial liability for these issues.
4. Statement of Problems and Corrective Actions
a. All reported citizen complaints (2) or employee problems were investigated and addressed internally in compliance with all applicable City or department policies and procedures.
b. Five (5) incidents were investigated by the Accident Review Board.
