ORDINANCE NO. 1984

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SALISBURY AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2006 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO COVER THE PURCHASE OF GASOLINE AND SALT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE FISCAL YEAR

WHEREAS, the City of Salisbury has experienced prices for gasoline and road salt that far exceeded the estimated cost of these commodities when the Fiscal Year 2006 budget was being developed; and

WHEREAS, the City’s departments have taken steps to reduce the consumption of gasoline; and

WHEREAS, despite these efforts the cost of gasoline has continued to exceed the budgeted forecasts; and

WHEREAS, several of the City departments are estimating that their expenditures for gasoline will exceed the amount appropriated in their budgets for gasoline; and

WHEREAS, several City departments estimate that the projected overruns in these accounts cannot be made up by transferring funds from other accounts; and

WHEREAS, the City needs to replenish its stock of road salt so that a sufficient quantity is on hand for the remainder of the winter season;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SALISBURY, MARYLAND that the City=s Fiscal Year 2006 General Fund budget be, and is hereby, amended as follows:

1) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 General Fund Unbudgeted Surplus Account (01000-469810) the sum of $125,700;

2) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Police Department budget the sum of $15,500;

3) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Traffic Branch budget the sum of $3,400

4) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Fire Department budget the sum of $30,000;

5) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Neighborhood Services Department budget the sum of $3,900;

6) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Streets Branch budget (Gasoline)the sum of $16,600;

7) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Streets Branch budget (Salt)the sum of $25,000;

8) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Sanitation Branch budget the sum of $21,400;

9) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Fleet Management budget the sum of $1,500;

10) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Carpenter Shop budget the sum of $2,600;

11) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Zoo budget the sum of $2,400;

12) Add to the Fiscal Year 2006 Parks Branch budget the sum of $3,400.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this Ordinance shall take effect from and after the date of its final passage.

THIS ORDINANCE was introduced and read at a meeting of the Council of the City of Salisbury held on the ___ day of ________, 2006, and thereafter, a statement of the substance of the Ordinance having been published as required by law, was finally passed by the Council on the ____ day of ________, 2006.
