  Recycling

Introduction.  Proper disposal of trash and recycling material is a critical component to maintaining Salisbury's excellent quality of life and being good stewards of our environment.  The City of Salisbury Public Works provides a number of services to our residents.  These are:

  •  Recycling.  Salisbury residents have two methods to recycle.   The County provides centralized collection locations throughout the County.  Five sites are in/or near the City limits; click here for additional information.  The City's Public Works Department provides curbside collection within the City limits which is described below.  Click Here is see our recycling brochure.

  • eCycing.  The City collects electronic components to recycle.  Please refer to the eCycling web page for more information.

City Curbside Collection

Overview.  Curbside recycling is a free service to all City of Salisbury residents who utilize the City’s once a week, curbside trash collection. Curbside recycling is an easy and convenient way to recycle household waste, because recyclables are picked up right at your curb.  City curbside recycling is collected on the same day as curbside trash collection.

Blue Bins.  A City of Salisbury, blue recycling bin is required.  To have a free, blue bin delivered, call the City of Salisbury Recycling Coordinator at 410-548-3177.  Place all recyclables into the blue bin, if additional bins are needed, call the recycling coordinator. If more than one bin is used, it is strongly recommended that recyclables be separated as much as possible.  This ensures pick up in a timely and orderly fashion.

Recyclables.  Recyclable materials include glass jars and bottles, aluminum and tin cans, newspapers and plastic bottles.  Bundled or bagged newspapers, phone books, and magazines are to be placed on top of or beside your recycling container.  The container is to be put next to your large trash bin on the same day as your normal trash collection.

Elderly or Handicapped Assistance.  Recyclables will only be picked up from the curb.  However, if you are elderly or handicapped, or for some valid reason, cannot place the recycling or trash on the curb, call the recycling coordinator to make other arrangements.

Pick-up Procedures.  Place recycling bins and trash receptacles on the curb, before 6:00 a.m., on your designated pick-up day, to ensure timely and orderly pick up. For public safety, recycling bins and trash receptacles must be removed by 11:00 p.m., the same day.  Please rinse blue bins and other recycling containers weekly.  If for some reason your recyclables are not picked-up from your curb, there is a possibility that a non-recyclable somehow ended up in your bin.  If this is the case, please reevaluate the curbside materials accepted listed below or call the Recycling Coordinator at (410) 548-3177.

Why should you recycle?

When waste is recycled it preserves natural resources, reduces pollution, saves energy and saves space in landfills.  Landfills cost millions of taxpayer dollars to build, therefore, increasing the life span of the landfill by recycling, saves taxpayer dollars.

Help preserve the Earth for the children of today and of the future.  After all, we do not inherit the Earth from our parents; we borrow it from our children!

Smart Shopping – purchasing items with pre-recycled and reduced packaging.  The packaging is 100% recycled material, therefore, wasting less material and saving new raw materials.  It’s a full circle.  Instead of plastic grocery bags, use reusable cloth bags.

Volunteer to Help.  The City established a committee for residents to join to help on recycling education outreach.  If you are interested contact the point of contact listed below.

Point of Contact.  If you have any questions concerning recycling or trash collection call the City of Salisbury Recycling Coordinator, Mr. Harry White, at (410) 548-3177.
