 Trash Services

          

Introduction.  Proper disposal of trash and recycling material is a critical component to maintaining Salisbury's excellent quality of life and being good stewards of our environment.  The City of Salisbury Public Works provides three types of services to our residents.  These are:

  •  Recycling.  For more information, see the Recycling web page.

  •   Bulk Trash Pick-up.  Please refer to the Bulk Trash Pick-up web page for more information.

  •   Trash Services.  A detailed description follows.

      

Schedule.    

  • Overview.  Residential trash is collected once a week on either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday based on what part of the City you live in.  Apartments and townhouses are collected three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  The City is divided into four areas based on U.S. 13 Business (on a north-south line) and U.S. 50 (on a east-west line).  The southwest quadrant is picked up on Tuesday, the northwest on Wednesday, the southeast on Thursday, and the northeast on Friday.  Specific street listing and corresponding pick-up day for trash pickup is at Normal Schedule.

  • Holidays.  If your scheduled collection day falls on a City holiday, please refer to the holiday trash collection schedule at the Holiday Schedule web site.  Also, holiday and trash collection schedules are sent to newspapers, radio and TV stations throughout the year.

     

Service Cost.  Trash pick-up rate structure is governed by the City Ordinance

      

Trash Receptacles.  The City’s automated trash collection system requires the use of special trash cans.  For City residents, approved trash receptacles can be purchased from the City of Salisbury Finance Office, and picked up from the City Maintenance Yard, or delivered.

Christmas Tree Collection.  We will collect discarded Christmas Trees for ONE WEEK ONLY, usually the second week of January. 

The trees should not be bagged and must have lights, ornaments, tinsel and stands removed.

Christmas trees should be placed for collection along with normal trash on your regularly scheduled collection day. TREES ARE TO BE PLACED BESIDE YOUR TRASH CONTAINER, NOT IN THE CONTAINER.  Residents of the City of Salisbury do not need to call for collection during this one-week special collection period.

The trees will be collected and chipped in preparation for composting or mulching.
